Dr. Carman Giacomantonio was appointed Chief Medical Director for Cancer Care 2014carmanNova Scotia in 2010. He has decided to finish his second term one year early, effective June 27, 2014.

Dr. Giacomantonio said his reasons for leaving CCNS a year earlier than originally intended are both personal and professional. “Over the last four years I’ve juggled the roles of cancer surgeon, administrator, and researcher, in addition to finding time to spend with family,” he said, adding that he has had more than a few sleepless nights trying to give each role the attention it so rightly deserves.

Dr. Giacomantonio said he is still committed to doing his part to improve the cancer system in the province, but indicated his heart is with patients saying, “Time and again, over the past four years, my role as a surgeon has often had to take a ‘back seat’ so I could deal with my administrative responsibilities.”
