News and NotesCancer Care Nova Scotia congratulates Dr. Drew Bethune on his appointment as Medical Lead for the Provincial Program of Care for Cancer for the Nova Scotia Health Authority. Dr. Bethune began his practice as a thoracic surgeon in Halifax in 1982 and has held multiple local and national leadership positions, including his role as current President of the Canadian Association of Thoracic Surgery.
     Dr. Bethune has been the medical lead of the Cancer Program in Central Zone (formerly Capital Health) since 2010. He is widely known as a strong advocate for the provision of quality cancer care for all Nova Scotians.

• Dr. Rob Rutledge, a radiation oncologist and Associate Professor at Dalhousie University, and Dr. Timothy Walker, a psychotherapist and Mindfulness Teacher in Halifax are presenting a free, “Skills for Healing” Cancer Weekend Retreat in Halifax from November 27 – 29, 2015. Over the weekend people will learn about combining conventional care with ways to empower the body, mind and spirit. They will learn about mindfulness-based stress reduction, cognitive reframing, meditation, and Qi gong within a supportive, expressive support group.
