News and NotesCancer Care Nova Scotia congratulates Erika Nicholson, CCNS’s Director of Cancer Prevention and Early Detection, on accepting the position of Senior Director, Cancer Care, for the Nova Scotia Health Authority. Erika begins her new role on July 20, 2015.

• Congratulations to Jill Flinn, Health Director of the Cancer Care Program for the Central Zone. Jill replaces Vickie Sullivan, who assumed the role of Operations Executive Director for the Central Zone earlier this Spring.

Cancer Care Nova Scotia congratulates Dr. Robin McGee on being awarded the Canadian Cancer Society’s (CCS) National Medal of Courage on April 25, 2015. A cancer survivor and a patient advocate, Dr. McGee has provided peer support to cancer patients, has fundraised to support cancer research. She also serves as volunteer patient advisor on Cancer Care Nova Scotia’s Clinical Standards Oversight Committee.

• Doctors Nova Scotia presented Dr. Peter Green with the Physician Health Promotion Award for his significant contribution to health promotion and legislation at their annual conference held the first weekend in June. Dr. Green is the volunteer Chair of the Sun Safe Nova Scotia coalition, coordinated by Cancer Care Nova Scotia, and is a strong advocate for reducing the risk of skin damage and associated skin cancers.
