Sun Safety in the School Community:
In response to requests from Public Health staff for credible and accessible information on sun safety for the school community, Cancer Care Nova Scotia has prepared a binder-format toolkit that includes background information on sun safety issues like UV radiation, risk reduction, artificial tanning, spray tans, etc., with tools that include fact sheets, presentations, curriculum guides and policy supports. They reflect the most current evidence and practice, and are from trusted, recognized sources.
Encouraging safer sun practices in our children and youth
A comprehensive school health approach recognizes the influence of the school, family and broader community in the promotion of healthy choices. The resources included in this toolkit reflect this reality and are intended to support public health staff in addressing skin cancer prevention and the importance of sun safety with administrators, teachers, parents and/or students.
Toolkits are available in public health offices and youth health centres
A printed, full-version binder of this toolkit can be accessed through public health offices and youth health centres in each district. Links are provided below to the components of the toolkit. Where noted, items are available in both French and English.
