There are many services located within your district that can help you cope with the challenges associated with cancer. Some services are for patients, others are for the family and friends of the patients. Others are open to anyone. Services in your district may include support groups, and cancer care clinics.
Cancer Patient Navigators:
A Cancer Patient Navigator will be able to help you access appropriate resources in your community or the nearby cancer centre throughout your cancer journey. Your cancer patient navigator’s role is to act as your guide through the healthcare system. They can answer many of your questions or tell you where to get answers to your questions. They can give you information that helps explain the different aspects of cancer and its treatment. They can also connect you with resources in your community.
There are patient navigators available in eight health districts – Cape Breton, South West Health, Pictou County Health Authority, Guysborough Antigonish Strait Health Authority, Annapolis Valley Health and Colchester East Hants Health, Cumberland Health, and South Shore Health.
