Some cancers can be found before they cause symptoms and before they have had a chance to grow and spread.
Checking for cancer in people who have no symptoms is called screening. Screening can help doctors find and treat some cancers early. Some screening tests help prevent cancer by finding changes in your body that could become cancerous.
Generally, cancer treatment is more effective when the disease is found early. However, there are not screening tests for all cancers.
In Nova Scotia, there are screening programs for:
• Breast Cancer
• Cervical Cancer
• Colon Cancer
