Cancer Management Guidelines
Guidelines for cancer management are priorities for
Cancer Care Nova Scotia. These guidelines help ensure that patients are receiving quality, consistent care across the province.
The guidelines are developed by the
Cancer Care Nova Scotia Provincial Cancer Site Teams to act as tools for health professionals. Guidelines describe the way different types of cancer should be treated based on the best available information and the most recent scientific evidence. It is important to note that cancer is unique to each individual and every guideline should be looked at within the context of the particular patient.
Guideline development involves reviewing current medical literature, treatment practice and care delivery, and consensus-development discussions between various health professionals. Every guideline written by
Cancer Care Nova Scotia is sent for review by health care professionals in Nova Scotia and other provinces to make sure it is accurate and easy to use. Currently, there are a number of guidelines in development.
Guidelines are reviewed on a regular basis and as new evidence appears. We welcome the participation of health professionals in Nova Scotia who are interested in helping with the development or review of the guidelines. Please contact Jill Petrella at 902 473-2936 or
