Quality Care Closer to Home
Cancer Care Nova Scotia works to ensure that Nova Scotians continue to receive consistent, high quality cancer care, as close to home as possible. Here are three accomplishments they are particularly proud of:
Guidelines - Cancer Care Nova Scotia staff and cancer specialists have developed medication, disease and symptom management guidelines. They provide health professionals with the information necessary to ensure their patients receive the highest quality cancer care possible. The guidelines are helping patients receive better care closer to home by enabling family doctors to better manage their patients’ symptoms and concerns.
Satellite Oncology - Cancer Care Nova Scotia is making it easier for rural cancer patients to receive care closer to home through the continued development and expansion of satellite oncology services. Patients are able to receive oncology specialist referral and follow-up services at the district facilities closest to their home.
Levels of Care - Cancer Care Nova Scotia’s Levels of Care has been developed for systemic therapy to define the types of cancer services that can safely and appropriately be administered in a particular location, such as a hospital, doctor’s office or patient’s home. The Systemic Therapy Levels of Care is expected to be implemented in Spring 2009.
