Health Professional Education
Continuing education for health professionals is at the heart of quality health care. Educational programs developed by Cancer Care Nova Scotia
and other major stakeholders are ensuring that health professionals in Nova Scotia are getting the tools and skills they need in a field that makes progress every day. Interprofessional Core Curriculum (ICC)
- The interprofessional approach to this series of skills-based education programs for cancer health professionals makes the program unique in Canada. The quality of care for patients and families has benefited significantly as a result of the program.
The ICC includes a ground-breaking online chemotherapy preparation course developed to help standardize methods used for chemotherapy preparation. It also incorporates a series of workshops on communication skills – crucial between health professionals, their colleagues and their patients. Palliative Care Front-line Education Program
- Nova Scotia patients and families are now receiving improved palliative-care services as a result of a partnership between Cancer Care Nova Scotia
and the Nova Scotia Community College. The Program is included as part of the regular curriculum for the college’s continuing care and practical nursing students.
